Short Eared Owls and other wintering birds at Killdeer Plains with former AMV member Bill Heck. We’ll leave from the old Wal-Mart parking lot at 7:00am. and will be back that evening. Bring a sack lunch. We will likely stop for dinner on the way back. Call Linda Williams (523-1538) to reserve a spot and more information.

April 10    Bruckner Nature Center Linda Williams

Six miles of trails traverse a variety of habitats including wetlands forest and prairie.  We will stop with Steve and Marion in Troy on the way back to have lunch.  Meet at 8:00 am at the old Oxford Wal-Mart to car pool.

April 24        Warbler Walk           Kathy Hunter

May 8         Big Oaks              Jim Michael

We will take a day trip to Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge in southwest Indiana. A refuge naturalist will lead our birding tour of this 50,000-acre refuge, situated on the site of a former military proving ground.  The refuge hosts a variety of different habitat types (grasslands, scrubland, forests, and wetlands), providing for a diversity of nesting and migratory bird species.  We need to allow 2 – 2.5 hours travel time plus 20 minutes for a safety orientation. We will leave from the old Wal-Mart parking lot promptly at 6:00 a.m. so that we can be in the field by 9:00 a.m. Bring a sack lunch.  We will leave the refuge late in the afternoon and likely stop for dinner on the way back. The number of participants that can be accommodated is limited, so notify Jim (523-3129; jmichael@woh.rr.com) if you plan to go on this exciting trip.

Members and the general public are welcome at all events of Audubon Miami Valley.  Field trips are free unless otherwise noted. The old Oxford Wal-Mart parking lot is located on South Locust Street.
